Helena is a DPhil candidate in Philosophy, and a recipient of the Institute’s Ethics in AI Scholarship. Prior to this, she completed an MPhil in Philosophical Studies under a Jacobsen Scholarship and BA in Philosophy with distinction, both at University College London.

Helena is interested in topics spanning moral philosophy, political philosophy, and practical ethics. Her MPhil research focused on the ethics of privacy - why it’s valuable - and what our interests in managing the public construal of ourselves to others can tell us about the ethics of emerging technologies. She will be continuing this work under the supervision of Dr Carissa Véliz.

Outside of academia, Helena is the lead editor of an AI Ethics digital magazine, an advisor at We&AI, and a researcher for AI For Good Asia. She is currently working on a research project seeking to quantify the impact of operationalizing ethics in the AI development process.
