Biography

Dr Dominic Burbidge is a permanent Lecturer in Politics for Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford. He additionally serves as Director of the Canterbury Institute. Dr Burbidge previously worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Politics, Princeton University.

Dr Burbidge’s research focuses on social trust, human coordination and civic virtue. On technology topics, he is currently writing on virtuous approaches to doing technology well, and the unique role of technology in supporting human coordination. 

Dr Burbidge is writing a manuscript, Machine Learning Versus Moral Reasoning, arguing that AI is incapable of moral reasoning and, therefore, incapable of generating an account of the virtues that work with human limitations to develop moral habits.

Dr Burbidge can co-supervise DPhils in social trust, civic friendship, natural law theory, virtue ethics, and philosophy of technology.
