- Institute for Ethics in AI
The Institute for Ethics in AI brings together world-leading philosophers and other experts in the humanities with the technical developers and users of AI in academia, business and government. The ethics and governance of AI is an exceptionally vibrant area of research at the University of Oxford and the Institute is an opportunity to take a bold leap forward from this platform. The Institute is part of the Philosophy Faculty and will be housed in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities at the University of Oxford. It was announced in June 2019 following a donation from Stephen A. Schwarzman, and launched in February 2021 with a panel event to discuss AI in a Democratic Culture.
- Stanford University Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence
The mission of HAI is to advance AI research, education, policy and practice to improve the human condition. Led by faculty from multiple departments across Stanford, research focuses on developing AI technologies inspired by human intelligence; studying, forecasting and guiding the human and societal impact of AI; and designing and creating AI applications that augment human capabilities. Through the education work of the institute, students and leaders at all stages gain a range of AI fundamentals and perspectives. At the same time, the policy work of HAI fosters regional and national discussions that lead to direct legislative impact.
HAI is unique because it balances diverse expertise and integration of AI across human-centered systems and applications in a setting that could only be offered by Stanford University. Stanford’s seven leading schools on the same campus, including a world-renowned computer science department, offer HAI access to multidisciplinary research from top scholars.
AI has the potential to affect every aspect of our lives and our civilization, from social bonds and ethics to the economy and healthcare, education and government. The faculty and staff of HAI are engaging not only with leading-edge scientists, but also with scholars trying to make sense of social movements, educators enhancing pedagogy, lawyers and legislators working to protect rights and improve institutions, and artists trying to bring a humanistic sensibility to the world in which we live. Together we’re helping build the future of AI.

- Patrick J McGovern Foundation
A global, 21st century philanthropy, the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation is committed to bridging the frontiers of artificial intelligence, data science, and social impact. The Foundation is the legacy of IDG founder Patrick J. McGovern, who often said, “The best is yet to come.” He recognized the potential for information technology and neuroscience to democratize access to knowledge, improve the human condition, and advance social good. A generation of rapid advances in technology have led us to new possibilities at the intersection of information technology and neuroscience — artificial intelligence and data science. The promise of AI and data science represent the future Patrick J. McGovern always envisioned. With his optimism about what is possible, the Foundation invests in the exploration, enhancement, and development of AI and data science for good.
