On June 20, 2024, over 440 attendees, including Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, gathered in Athens for the Lyceum Project, a conference on AI ethics inspired by Aristotle’s philosophy. Organised by Oxford’s Institute for Ethics in AI in partnership with the World Human Forum, the Athens Conservatory, and Stanford University Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence, the event featured the unveiling of a white paper authored by Professors John Tasioulas and Josiah Ober, proposing an Aristotelian framework for addressing the key challenges and opportunities created by the rapid development of AI technologies.
The day saw rich discussions with leading academics and practitioners in AI ethics and successfully brought together a diverse group of participants to explore the ethical implications of AI through the lens of Aristotle’s philosophy. The discussions and presentations provided valuable insights and set the stage for future collaborations and continued engagement in the field of AI ethics.
